Happy New year folks!
I watched tick..tick..boom! minutes before writing this edition so here’s a small inspired try at writing a jingle of my own. I hope you don’t judge me too harshly as it’s my first attempt. Sing it in any tune you like.
Here goes -
With the start of new year
comes the start of a new venture
a blog cum newsletter
to help you handle money better.
After a tedious search for a name
With the help of one fine dame
I landed on Money Amigo
And quickly whipped up a logo.
My mind is swimming with ideas
Some about finance and some about pizzas
But what I’d love to know
Is what you want to know, so let those thoughts flow!
(No, seriously, reply to this email with any doubts you have regarding finance.)
I’ll be sending out the first edition soon and it’ll cover the boring basics of money - keep an eye out!
Brain Candy
I promised you a review of The Minimalist Entrepreneur - It’s a must read for anyone who wants to dip their toes in business. My key takeaway was how the author insists that it’s not necessary to build a business with the aim of earning millions or becoming a unicorn. All a business needs to be is sustainable, profitable and must provide value to folks. These key points make starting a business feel less daunting. I encourage you to pick it up, if only to understand what goes behind it and not necessarily to start one yourself.
The second book I picked up was ‘Do Epic Shit’ by Ankur Warikoo. It is an inspirational/motivational book for sure, but I found myself disagreeing with the author at many parts. I would call it mission accomplished on part of the author because the ultimate purpose of the book is to cultivate a more self-awareness on our part, on which count, I think it succeeded. The mission was not to get the public to agree with all that he said.
I watched Dear Zindagi and tick..tick..boom! this weekend, both on Netflix. Both are masterpieces in their own right, the former unprecedentedly tackling mental health in an Indian setting and the latter about grit, perseverance and for the love of art. Both took me on roads high and low and I came out feeling like a boat floating on a lake at sunset, surrounded by mountains. My heart was full.
FinChats
As I announced previously, I’ll be starting a newsletter cum blog called Money Amigo, a financial newsletter for young Indians. Everyone subscribed to this newsletter will be automatically subscribed to it. No spam, I promise.
Keep an eye out for the first edition!
Also, there will be an archive of all posts so you can read them at your own pace here.
Tools and Resources
This is a calming way to rid your brain of all thoughts that have been bothering you lately.
Atom is a wonderful app I use for meditation. It has intentional sessions and a little forest that lets you grow trees as you complete sessions. It’s free to use :D
Substack is the platform which I’m currently using to send out newsletters. It’s free to use and easy to set up. If you’ve been thinking of starting your own, hit me up and I’ll be happy to help any way I can. It also has a good collection of witty and informative newsletters.
A Quote and a Question
Are you letting yourself be led by fear or by love?
For this edition, both quote and question are from the movie tick..tick..boom! While the question is rather simplistic, given that our lives aren’t a musical, I find it necessary to ask myself this from time to time.
If you liked this edition, can you share it with someone who you think will like it too?
